Calcareous Vineyard

Indulge your senses in the beautiful Calcareous Vineyard. Tantalize your palate with our award winning wines, lose yourself in the lush landscape and rolling hills of our vineyards and enjoy the panoramic, breath-taking views from our state-of the-art winery and tasting room.

Established in 2000 and located on Peachy Canyon Road, the 442 acre estate is three miles west of Paso Robles and stretches several miles, sweeping west towards the Pacific Ocean. Calcareous Vineyard’s founders Lloyd Messer and Dana Brown extensively researched the attributes of many renowned wine regions in the world. Western Paso Robles won our attention by offering a unique combination of climate, soil and varietal selections.

Our vineyard is named “Calcareous” as a tribute to the terroir. “Calcareous” is a Latin word describing a white-colored soil due to lime deposits formed by seas that once covered this land in pre-historic ages. The soil content replicates many famous wine regions in France. The mineral composition from the limestone can be recognized in the wine, giving it a very distinct character and style. This limestone soil and the varied micro-climates allow us to produce Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundy varietals simultaneously.

Although Lloyd Messer, the true visionary of Calcareous Vineyards passed away in 2006, his passion for the terroir and his dream will be carried out by his two daughters, Dana Brown and Erika Messer. In early 2007 we opened our winery and tasting room and have spared no attention to details, from the vineyard to the winery to the bottle of Calcareous wine produced for your enjoyment. We invite you to join us at our new hilltop tasting room, “Lloyd’s Lookout.” Now serving lunch Saturday and Sunday from 11-2.
